Vedanta Aluminium
India's Largest Primary Foundry Alloy Manufacturer

Backed by R&D and innovation, we were the first in India to develop primary foundry alloys for the domestic market. Our PFA facility comprises state-of-the-art casting lines supplied by Remetal Befesa (Spain) and Properzi (Italy), equipped with associated in-line metal treatment facilities consisting of degassing and metal filtration unit and vertical chill casting technology. Our in-house laboratory is equipped with spectrometers and other allied quality assessment facilities to ensure that all of our products meet the specified chemical, physical, surface and static quality requirements.

Under our alloy ingot portfolio, we also manufacture Cylinder-Head Alloy, which is a critical raw material for manufacturing cylinder heads and other automotive components. Our Cylinder-Head Alloy leverages material design to help automakers increase efficiency of internal combustion engines for improved performance on emission control, in line with BS-VI and CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency/Economy) norms.

Aluminium, the ‘Metal of the Future’

Aluminium is a strategic metal, critical for a country’s national security and socio- economic development. It finds applications in core industries such as aerospace, space exploration, national defence, automotive, building and construction, electrical distribution, packaging and more. The high strength to weight ratio, corrosion resistance, light weight, supreme formability, and infinite recyclability of the metal, coupled with the fact that bauxite (the ore from which aluminium is made) mining is sustainable, have given aluminium the ‘green metal’ moniker.

Vedanta Aluminium & Power

Vedanta Aluminium & Power Business is India’s largest producer of ‘green metal’ aluminium, the second most important metal in the world. Backed by rich deposits of high-quality bauxite, India has the second largest aluminium production capacity in the world after China. We produce more than half of India’s aluminium at 1.9 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) in FY20. We command more than 40% market share in India and our value-added products are world leaders in their respective segments. This business is also the amongst the largest private power producers in India with a capacity of over 5300 MW. With our world-class smelters, alumina refinery and power plants across India, we fulfil our mission of spurring emerging applications of aluminium, the ‘Metal of the Future’ for a greener, more sustainable tomorrow.

Alumina Refinery, Lanjigarh (Odisha)

Vedanta operates a 2 MTPA (million tonnes per annum) capacity alumina refinery in Lanjigarh (Kalahandi district, Odisha), India since 2007 and an associated 90 MW captive power plant. The refinery feeds Vedanta’s aluminium smelters at Jharsuguda and BALCO. The refinery is widely hailed as having transformed one of the most impoverished regions of the country to bring it into the socio-economic mainstream of the state of Odisha.

Aluminium Smelter, Jharsuguda (Odisha)

Vedanta operates the world’s largest single-location aluminium plant ex-China at Jharsuguda, Odisha. The plant has 1.6 MTPA aluminium smelting capacity and associated 3615 MW thermal power generation facility. The only Indian smelter in the global ‘1 Million Tonne’ production and export club, Vedanta Jharsuguda is a leader in value-added aluminium products that find critical applications across core industries.

Bharat Aluminium Company (BALCO), Korba (Chhattisgarh)

BALCO (Bharat Aluminium Company Limited) is India’s iconic aluminium producer and was conceived as a temple of modern India. It is owned 49% by the Government of India and 51% by Vedanta Limited. BALCO operates a 0.57 MTPA aluminium smelter in Korba, Chhattisgarh. It is widely acclaimed as one of India’s greatest disinvestment and privatisation success stories. The company has seen approximately a growth of roughly 6 times since the government divested a 51% stake. From 100 KTPA (kilo tons per annum) in FY 01 to 345 KTPA in FY05 to 575 KTPA in FY20, the company has deployed world-class operational efficiencies to clock this unprecedented quantum growth.
