How To Deal With Loud Noises In A Townhome

One of the biggest issues that many people deal with when it comes to living in a two bedroom townhome or a two bedroom apartment is that the walls are shared. Since many townhomes are used by families, the shared walls can quickly lead to an abundance of noise that can drive everyone crazy.

Whether you are currently dealing with a noisy situation or about to move into a two bedroom townhome and want a quiet lifestyle, here’s the best way to deal with noises and noise complaints without seeming like a demanding neighbor.

Wait It Out

Often the loud noises either can’t be helped, or are one offs. For example, sometimes people need to move furniture and it makes some loud noises. Other times people have a young baby who seems to only want to cry, and more often than not a loud party that gets on your nerves is going to have some type of ending.

Rather than getting angry about something that will end soon, sometimes the best way to deal with loud townhome noises is just to sit and wait them out. Throw on your headphones, leave the townhome and go do something else, or simply embrace the noise as part of life. It will all be over soon and then you can get back to peace and quiet.

Talk To Your Neighbor

If continuous loud noises on your shared wall are still happening and you can’t wait them out, don’t be afraid to knock on a door and talk to your neighbor about them. Just make sure you are in the right mindset, because you don’t want to storm up to the door all angry. Instead, make sure that you’ve given yourself time to calm down, and also the time needed to outline your points about why a loud noise is bothering you. If something is very disruptive to your daily life, tell them why.

Having a quiet and calm conversation means that you can explain your points, and also listen to their points. You might even be able to negotiate a deal, such as quieting down parties after a certain period of time, or letting them know about times when you will be leaving the apartment where they can be as loud as they like.

Just remember to be in the right mental headspace in order to talk to your neighbor, because you don’t want to start an argument!

Loud noises in a shared townhome are going to happen on occasion, but keeping your head on straight and making sure that you confronting the problem respectfully is the best way to solve it and get back to peace and quiet.
