In The Age of Automation, One Question Matters: What Still Moves Us?

In any discussion on legacy, technology or transformation, one truth remains unchanged: our people are the heart of Mafatlal.

Over my visits to our factories, whether in Nadiad, Navsari, or across our partner units, I am constantly reminded that our legacy story is not built on machines, markets or management, but on human commitment.

Many of our colleagues come from textile families spanning two to three generations. They carry with them not just technical skill, but values of dignity, discipline, and quiet dedication passed down at home.

Their families wake up earlier than production lines do. They plan their lives around shift timings. They celebrate festivals on alternate days, take trains before sunrise, and somehow, with extraordinary steadiness, contribute to the fabric that reaches millions of homes, schools and institutions.

To me, this is not labour.

This is craft, continuity, and community devotion.

The future of Indian manufacturing will undoubtedly include automation, digital workflows and advanced materials. But I firmly believe that technology must honour the human hands that taught it precision, not replace their dignity.

To every member of our workforce, and to the families who stand behind them:

Thank you for shaping the “Fabric of India,” stitch by stitch, year after year.

Your contribution is not just operational; it is cultural, generational, and deeply national.

I would love to hear from other leaders:

How do you keep your people at the centre of transformation, especially when industries are rapidly digitising?
