Fatima Bint-e-Muhammad (PBUH)

Hazrat Fatima Bint-e-Muhammad (PBUH) was the youngest daughter of our Holy Prophet (PBUH). Hazrat Fatima (RA) was born in Makkah. Her mother was Hazrat Khadija (RA), the first wife of the Holy Prophet.

Early Life

Following the birth of Fatima Bint-e-Muhammad (PBUH), she was nursed by her mother and brought up by her father. From a very young age, Hazrat Fatima (RA) had a caring nature, especially when it came to accounts of Holy Prophets (PBUH).

Once when Holy Prophet (PBUH) was performing the salat (prayer) in the Kaaba, Abu Jahl and his men had camel placenta poured over him. Hazrat Fatima (RA), upon hearing the news, she got so worried that she rushed to her father and wiped away the filth while scolding the men. The death of her mother caused her a lot of trauma but she took of her father very sincerely and was called “UmmeAbiha”, i.e. the mother her father.

Marriage

Hazrat Fatima Bint-e-Muhammad (PBUH) was married to the cousin of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), Hazrat Ali (RA). After her marriage to Ali, the couple led a humble life, due to her desire to be closer to her father, a Medinan donated his own house to them. For several years after her marriage, she did all of the work by herself. The shoulder on which she carried pitchers of water from the well was swollen and the hand with which she worked the hand mill to grind corn was often covered with blisters. She vouched to take care of the household work, make the dough, bake bread, and clean the house; in return, Ali vouched to take care of the outside work such as gathering firewood and bringing food. Even after their conditions got better, Hazrat Fatima (RA) took care of all her helpers and treated them like family.

Once Hazrat Fatima (RA) asked her father for a helper. Her father asked her if she would like a gift instead that worth more than everything in the world. Upon her ready agreement, he gave her the collective prayer called the Tasbih of Fatima. Tashvih Fatima includes Allahu Akbar 33 times, Alhamdulillah 33, Subhan’Allah 33 times and lāʾilāhaʾillāllāh once.

Hazrat Fatimah had two sons, Hazrat Hasan (RA) and Hazrat Hussain (RA), and two daughters, HazratZaynab (RA) and HazratUmm Kulsoom (RA).

On the battlefield

Following the Battle of Uhud, Hazrat Fatima Bint-e-Muhammad (PBUH) tended to the wounds of her father and husband. She regularly visited the graves of all those who died in the battle and pray for them. She, along with her husband, was also called upon by Abu Sufyan to intercede on his behalf with Holy Prophet (PBUH) while attempting to make amends following the violation of the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah.
