Anthony Constantinou Defines Keyword density when creating content

When you create SEO content for the Internet you need to ensure that the keyword density in use is well within the prescribed guidelines of Google. Anything in between 2-3% would be ideal, as Google permits a max of 2% and MSN and Yahoo up to 5%. The density of keywords on a webpage signals to search engines what the content is all about and how it matched online users’ needs.

Anthony Constantinou says, "A good step before deciding to create content is to undertake keyword research which can be easily done using a host of free online tools. Making use of a keyword analysis tool helps in finding those phrases and words that have the highest search volumes and the competition levels." When searching try to focus on finding "long-tail" phrases that are used by users in online searches, that match the manner that people type in or speak. Always ensure that the primary keyword or phrase is repeated in content, but do not overdo it, as too much would be considered to be overstuffing and will get your webpage penalized.

Anything over 5% is considered keyword stuffing and will negatively impact rankings with the search engines.  After creating content read it aloud and if there are words that sound repetitive then change them. To find out about the keyword density you can make use of a free and useful tool ‘density checker’ where you can enter your content, check it and edit it until you get the right level.

One way to get the density right without repeating keywords is to use variations or synonyms of the word. An example could be for the keyword ‘low-cost’ we can use cheap, economical, affordable etc. Google will make a match against the search term ‘low-cost’ but it will come across as being more natural.

Another important aspect is its location. That is where keyword density is enhanced by placing them strategically and ensuring to avoid repetitions. A few other points to bear in mind are:

  • You need to ensure that the specific keyword appears in the URL as well as page title and try to keep it short so as to better match the search queries of users.
  • Remember to place the keyword within the Alt tag and image title
  • Also embed the keyword within the content’s heading (h1&h2)
  • When installing the keyword it must be at the top of content, the beginning of a sentence, and it should be in bold lettering.

Once the content is optimized and posted online you can reap the benefits.  You have an opportunity to create links to your site from related sites and blogs as well as article directories and of course social media sites. In the event the links have a ‘no-follow’ condition they can still be productive by directing traffic through the anchor text.

A useful trick is instead of just linking with your URL, you can make use of the keyword within the anchor text and places other relevant terms and phrases along with it.
