Ram Raja Temple: A temple in Orchha

A Beautiful temple

The temple is situated in Orchha, Madhya Pradesh, India. It is the only temple where Lord Ram is worshiped as a king as well as god. Numerous visitors flock to the temple. The visitors number range from fifteen hundred to three thousand especially on certain important Hindu festivals like the Makar Sankranti, Vasant Panchami, Shivratri, Ram Navami, Kartik Purnima.

Historical significance

There is a very famous story behind the  foundation. The story is that the queen was very much fond of lord Ram and wanted to travel to ayodhya but the king being a devotee of krishna asked the queen to accompany him to Brij. The Queen was so adamant and refused to accompany him. The king then asked the queen to return to kingdom from Ayodhya only with lord ram in child form then only he will believe in lord ram. Queen took vow that either she will return with lord Rama in her lap or she will drown herself in the Sarayu river. Queen went to Ayodhya and prayed a lot for lord ram to appear but Ram did not appear then she decided to drown herself. Just when she was about to drown herself Lord Ram appeared.

Lord Ram put three conditions for the Queen; the first condition was that he would travel only in Pushya Nakshatra. Second condition was that once he reached Orchha, he would be the King of Orchha instead of the queen's husband. Third condition was that the first place the queen would seat lord ram would be his final place of stay and would be famous by the name of Ramraj. The queen promises him and embarks on the journey back to Orchha.

The Ramraj temple that we see today is a result of the promises made by the queen to lord Rama. Therefore Ram is worshipped both as a king as well as a god.
