Top 6 Mistakes Your Hotel Must Avoid

The demand in the hospitality sector is highly volatile, especially in the COVID-19 era.  Therefore, hoteliers are constantly looking for opportunities to attract more new clients: either by implementing new services and tools or using unique marketing strategies.

Unfortunately, hoteliers tend to make serious mistakes leading to disastrous results. It is not always possible for them to determine exactly what they are doing wrong, so in this article, we will look at the most common mistakes in the hotel business.

  1. Bad Interior Design.
Bad designing of the rooms can cost guests an enjoyable stay at the hotel, which cannot but affect customer satisfaction and your online reviews. The rooms must be as comfortable as possible, meaning no too much furniture or too many bright colors. Broken furniture or electric appliances is another deal-breaker! Make sure rooms are spacious and have good lighting as well.
  2. Bad Security.
It is important the guests feel safe in your hotel, so it is your obligation to eliminate all threats to the life and health of your guests. All of your staff should be trained to provide advanced first aid, install surveillance cameras, and provide security on each of the guest floors as well as in the hotel’s restaurant, lobby, etc.
  3. Saving on Consumables is another widespread mistake among hoteliers. Bed linen, dinnerware, electric appliances, even cleaning products - everything must be of high quality.
  4. Underpaying Your Staff. Low salary leads to employee dissatisfaction which will affect their productivity and cause worse performance and poorer customer service. And while decent pay is a good motivation, the psychological approach also brings good results – respect and praise for employees are just as important as pay.
  5. No Corporate Culture. The lack of corporate culture among the staff leads to poorer team cohesion, ultimately, negatively affecting the performance of employees. It is your job, as a hotel owner, to create a coordinated empowered group of talented personnel that communicates well, works together efficiently and shares a common set of values.
  6. Not Utilizing Technology. The Internet gives you a brilliant opportunity to foster a 24/7 communication with your clients, so why not take advantage of it and start using an online booking system? There are multiple benefits it brings your business: it allows you to be in contact with your customers 24/7 and make the whole reservation process more convenient. Besides, it helps you stay organized and decrease your workload, making your work time more efficient. But its best feature is providing you with analytics. Booking system monitors all your reservations and give you detailed information on each of your guests. Thus, it helps you understand what is your target audience and adapt your services to their preferences.

The competition in the hospitality industry is tough and challenging. So it is vital to stand out from the crowd. The simplest way to do so is by providing your customers with impeccable service that will make them want to come back. In fact, how many customers you have and how content they are with the services you provide defines your success (or failure).

In this article, we have covered some mistakes that might cost you all of your business. So if you feel like you’ve made at least one of them, ensure you fix them and learn from them.
