Choosing the Right Bins Or Shelves for Your Existing Racking Or Stacked Shelving System

An existing racking or shelf system provides a cost effective, stable and secure method for storing and moving heavy goods. The benefits of an existing racking or shelf system can be further enhanced by fitting it with a bin liner. A bin liner can enhance security and reliability of the existing racking or shelf system by reducing the risk of theft or damage to stock. Bins can be secured at the bottom of the racking or shelf by fitting metal brackets or screw hooks. This provides maximum protection from damage and means that all stock is stored close to the floor where they can be easily accessed. Bins are usually double walled and lined with plastic to provide maximum safety and support.

One of the main advantages of using an existing racking or shelf system rather than installing a new racking or shelf system is the amount of floor space that is saved. A double layer shelf system takes up around 300mm of vertical space and around 200mm of horizontal space. Installing a new racking system takes around half that amount of space. All that is left is around half a cubic metre of floor space. In addition, the use of existing racking or shelf gives the option of flexible placement of items such as electric goods and machinery.

A racking or shelf storage system provides superior access to stored goods. When goods are stored in this way, the fork lift trucks that are usually required to move goods between storage areas are avoided. The fork lift trucks can then be used for other purposes, freeing up valuable floor space that can be put to better use. Additionally, the reduced floor space that is freed allows for a more efficient operation of the truck.

If there are many different types of racks or shelves that are required to store goods, then an extensive installation process will need to be planned. For example, if there are two layers of storage bins, then one layer must be fitted above the other. The stacking requirements will also need to be considered. Ideally, goods should be arranged so that they are easy to access and to be inventoried at a glance. This is not only safer, but more efficient. When goods are stored in a flat position, the logistics of accessing them is made easier, and this in turn can lead to quicker movement of goods and consequently higher productivity levels. There are several different types of racking. The most common are wall and cabinet racking. Wall racking is most commonly found in offices, but can also be installed in warehouses and on storage floors. A similar type of racking is the cupboard racking. A more unusual type of racking is the cantilever racking system. These take up floor space in a building but are very efficient at storing goods.

To ensure you buy the right system, it is advisable to talk to a professional company who can assess your needs and supply you with the best solution. Alternatively, a qualified person may be able to carry out the task for you, and contact your existing racking or shelf system supplier to discuss installation options. Alternatively, you could undertake the task yourself. It is always worth seeking expert advice in order to make sure that the new bin or shelving system you install is the best possible choice.
