Know everything about the Types of Furnace Air Filters!

We all know how long and freezing Ottawa winters can be. This time of the year seems to be the right time to get yourself a good furnace to spend the cold, windy days. No worries, there's plenty of places that got you covered for new furnace sales in Ottawa, along with installation. Don't let anybody make you believe otherwise, but furnace installation is complicated and a bit expensive. On the other hand, it's also a great, long-lasting asset.

Types of filters

Not every type of furnace is suitable for all purposes, and that's what people need to keep in mind before getting a furnace system installed. Before you start searching for furnace sales and installation options, let's have a look at the types:

Fiberglass or Synthetic filters

These are the most affordable and disposable options for your furnace. Fiberglass or synthetic filters catch up to 80% of particles 50 microns and larger, along with 25% of particles between 5-10 microns. These filters keep the dirt and dust from building up on heat exchangers. Thus, the components of your furnace remain clean. They allow maximum airflow through your system. However, they do not purify harmful contaminants affecting peoples' health.

Polyester Filters

Polyester filters are medium-sized and built using the highest quality materials available. Moreover, they catch and remove 80-95% of particles ranging from 5 microns to larger. Although a polyester filter is four times more expensive than normal fiberglass filters, it provides you with better protection against pollutants.

Electrostatic Filters

These types of filters attract particles out of your air using self-charging fibers. Disposable or washable electrostatic filters according to your requirements are also available. The MERV rating that the washable versions of these filters offer is between 4-10. Also, they last longer than the other average filters. However, the washable filters require maintenance that includes soap and water to wash them. Later, reinstall it after drying it thoroughly. If it has not been dried properly, then you will have the risk of mildew and mould growth.

HEPA Filters

HEPA, high-efficiency particulate air, is another high-quality filter that offers high-end filtration by catching 99% of 0.3-micron particles or even larger ones. However, they can potentially cost a little higher in energy usage, and they will create a healthier and new environment in your house.

Conclusion

Likewise, you should remember that some wrong furnace filters or an inappropriately maintained filtration system could bring about poor heater productivity or even heater disappointment. However, you'll get a lot of options for furnace sales and installation, but not all of them are genuine. Thus, to know their sincerity and determine the best for you, you must educate yourself on the options available.
