What Is Mozzarella Cheese Made From?

Mozzarella Cheese is a mild, smooth-textured cheese created in Italy from the milk of water buffaloes; cow's milk imitations of variable quality are also available.

Mozzarella is a plastic or stretched-curd cheese made by stretching and kneading curds with heated whey until they reach a smooth, malleable consistency. It is then formed into spheres or ovals and kept moist by being stored in water. Mozzarella is prepared fresh every day in various parts of Italy, as well as at Italian delicatessens throughout the world.

Mozzarella Cheese is a creamy white or pale ivory cheese with a mild, fresh lactic flavour that is largely used in cooking, particularly as a primary element in pizza. It's delicate and perishable, with a shelf life of only a few days; however, some varieties go through an ageing process that intensifies the flavour and extends the shelf life, similar to provolone. Scamorze is smoked mozzarella that has been lightly smoked.
