Monosodium Glutamate is a flavour enhancer that is often used in Chinese cuisine, canned veggies, soups, and processed meats. MSG is designated as a "generally recognised as safe" food additive by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), although its use is still debatable. As a result, the FDA requires that MSG be stated on the label when it is added to food.


For decades, Monosodium Glutamate has been utilised as a food ingredient. The FDA has received several anecdotal reports of harmful responses to MSG-containing foods throughout the years. The MSG symptom complex includes the following reactions:


  • Headache
  • Flushing
  • Sweating
  • Tightness or pressure on the face
  • Numbness, tingling, or scorching sensations in the face, neck, and other parts of the body
  • Fluttering, rapid heartbeats (heart palpitations)
  • Pain in the chest
  • Nausea\sWeakness


However, no conclusive proof of a relationship between Monosodium Glutamate and these symptoms has been discovered by experts. However, researchers acknowledge that MSG may cause short-term responses in a tiny number of persons. The symptoms are usually minor and do not necessitate medical attention. Avoiding MSG-containing meals is the only method to avoid a response.
