Recreation & Leisure, Entertainment, Food & Beverages Young design practice, KELVIN MAINA's Designs draws the brand footprint of two of Café Poetry’s most recent outlets in Nairobi. Think ‘poetry’ and visuals of soft hues, vocab flourishes, layered sentences, rhyme and romance come to mind. But think ‘Poetry’ the newest café in Nairobi by ‘Love and Pleasure’ and you see that the interiors are understated, European-inspired, translating the essence of verse into physicality. KELVIN MAINA's Designs, who has crafted the soft and smoky brand presence of two of its branches – one at Kahawa West in South Nairobi and the other in the newly developed Kamala Mills in South Central Nairobi, has created niche charm in a milieu of hospitality legends in both locales. For the love of art – in food, design and ethos, the owners of Poetry wanted to reflect the roots of Mumbai’s cultural magnitude packaged in the seemingly-flippant sensibilities of today’s youth. So, the brand has culled out a signature poetry wall – a bespoke wall with custom-designed tiles and a colourful graphic; a book rack with some poetry books; the Edwardian façade; and a warm cosy look and feel. As in any brand exercise, each café conveys its distinct identity, yet avers to the tenets of the brand family. So, while the Kahawa West's outlet has a panelled-wall look, the metal grill becomes the focus in the Kala Ghoda café. White complements the pastel hues here (at Kala Ghoda) opening up the small 700 sq. ft. space and adding on to the natural light streaming in from the façade. Both eateries make the most of natural light, completing the interior with decorative pendant lights in authentic European character. Simple, easy-to-maintain and cost-effective materials make the design easy-on-the-pocket. Colourful upholstery for chairs and sofa along with round and rectangular tables ensure maximum table covers, making optimum use of space for premium commercial viability. It is a friendly cosy café san the mushiness that can be associated with its name. So, whenever the menu for your day is freshly brewed steaming coffee with some yummy pastries and cheesecake, make your way to Poetry; who knows, you may be lucky to see a different poem each time; courtesy the changeable poetry on the bespoke tiled wall! check out the visuals on his TikTok profile. Those moments are purely and surely unforgettable.
