How a Curly Hair Salon Can Make All the Difference!

If you have curly hair, we're sure others have commented on how much they wish they had curly hair like yours. If only they knew! Curly hair is notoriously unruly and prone to frizz and dryness. Curly hair is also impossible to style and "smooth out". But unruly curls don't have to make your life difficult. You're missing out if you've never had a curly hair salon experience! It takes different methods to tame curls, and your stylist can offer you a comprehensive hair care system that every curly head should experience!

Why is curly hair curly?

According to LiveScience, there are two theories about why people have curly hair. The first is that there are more cells on the outer edge of the hair follicle and fewer on the inner edge, which pulls the strand inwards and creates curls. The second reason is that the length of the cells on the inner and outer edges of the hair follicle is different, and as a result, the hair does not grow straight.

The truth is, if you look under a magnifying glass, you can see that people with straight hair have perfectly round follicles and people with curly hair have oval follicles. The curlier the hair, the flatter the oval will be. Another theory about curly hair is that it is a better insulator, meaning curly-haired girls and boys will rock their winter warmth!

Curly hair specialist

A curly hair expert has undergone specialized training in all curly hair types. Curly hair should be cut dry. New guests often walk into the curly hair salon with all their usually curly hair ideas for long hair, only to be surprised that we have no idea what they're used to. Cut first and wash last!

Our Stylists used a cutting technique, which was also unusual. Curly hair usually means more hair length and volume. For this reason, curly hair is cut upside down, providing the right perspective as it hangs straight and stops the dreaded triangular head. Although unconventional, this is a great way to get in shape. Curly hair ideas for short hair also need to consider the added volume, so they must be layered differently than straight hair.

After washing and conditioning, curly hair should not be blow-dried like straight hair.

If you want your hair to fall out beautifully and not turn into a ball of fluff, then the tried and tested method is to turn your head around and squeeze it slightly.

It's okay to leave a trail of quality conditioner and not strip the life from your hair. A little conditioner helps keep hair nourished and hydrated and coats gently to prevent frizz.

Air dryer curls are great, but if you're short on time and need to dry your hair a little faster, use a microfiber towel or even a cotton t-shirt for maximum absorbency and minimal disruption to each curl's shape. Rubbing and towel-drying hair is not a good idea as it can encourage knots and frizz (a significant problem with curls).

While your hair dries naturally, think like rice and let it go! Resist the urge to spin it around your finger! By not touching it, you are letting it do its job, ending well.

Note that curls require a different technique than curly hair or even wavy hair – after all, no two curls are the same! When you visit a good curly hair salon with a specialist, you will never leave the salon with a fuzzy triangle again.
