Prevent, treat and heal your back pain

Your back is the one thing that carries you through the day. Whether you're hunched over a computer, picking up your child, or just making things work all at once, it's with you every step of the way. When it aches, we have all been there to try anything and everything to relieve our back pain. Even if we have no prior medical issues whatsoever. Lack of exercise, household chores, daily stress, wrong sleeping position, and incorrect posture are some of the most common reasons for back pain. The good news is that there are natural solutions for back pain treatment in Albuquerque. The other good news is that supplementing your diet with foods high in antioxidants can help prevent some types of chronic back pain.

What is Back Pain?

Back pain is a common and complex problem that can affect anyone, at any age. It can range from mild to severe and can vary in duration. Back pain may be acute (short-lasting), sub-acute (of longer duration but not permanent), or chronic (long-standing).

People often think that back pain is caused by a specific event, such as lifting something heavy. But it's a complex condition, with several contributing factors.

Overexertion

Repeatedly lifting or twisting heavy objects, or doing other strenuous physical tasks, can cause back pain.

Injury

A sudden injury such as falling or being hit by something can injure the spine.

Inheritance

If your parents or siblings have experienced back problems, you are more likely to develop them as well. Studies show that about half of people with low back pain have a family member who also experienced it.

Posture

Poor posture from sitting too long at a desk or with your head held forward can lead to muscle strain in the neck and shoulders, which may radiate into your lower back.

Biomechanics

A biomechanical imbalance may contribute to an injury or cause back pain through muscle strain.

Tips for preventing back pain

Back pain can affect your daily life, making it difficult to work, play and sleep. You may feel tired, depressed, and anxious about your pain. Prevention is the best way to avoid back problems in the future. Here are some tips for preventing back pain:

  • Good posture

Maintain good posture when sitting, standing, or walking. Keep your head up straight and shoulders back. Don't lean forward or slouch when you are sitting or standing.

  • Stretching

Stretch regularly throughout the day, especially when getting up from a chair or after long periods of sitting down at work or school. Stretch also helps to ease muscle stiffness caused by inactivity during the day (for example, after long plane flights).

  • Exercise

Strengthen your core muscles by doing exercises that target these muscles such as crunches, sit-ups, and leg lifts while lying on the floor; swimming; yoga; Pilates; weight training; rowing – any activity.

Medications such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may help relieve inflammation and manage pain.

Having a healthy back is essential to having a healthy life. By taking steps to prevent yourself from experiencing pain, you can ensure a much happier and more active future. In the end, it's not enough to understand what your back pain is and why you have it. You also need to take steps so it doesn't keep coming back. The goal should be "no pain" --because who doesn't want that?
