Eisenmenger Syndrome Treatment Is Determined By A Patient's Symptoms And Condition

In certain persons with Eisenmenger syndrome, who were born with structural issues with the heart, blood flow from the heart to the lungs is compromised. Eisenmenger syndrome is a disorder brought on by aberrant blood flow brought on by a cardiac defect. Most frequently, those who have this ailment were born with a hole between the two pumping chambers of the heart, the left and right ventricles (ventricular septal defect). The hole enables blood that has already taken in oxygen from the lungs to return to the lungs rather than leave them to the rest of the body.

The following cardiac conditions can also cause Eisenmenger Syndrome:

·      defective atrioventricular valves

·      ventricular septal defect

·      Cirrhosis of the heart

·      ductus arteriosus patent

·      Aortic Truncus

The most frequent cause of Eisenmenger Syndrome is a hole between two heart chambers. In this case, a hole (ventricular septal defect) between the heart's major pumping chambers increases blood flow to the lungs' arteries. This eventually leads to these blood vessels stiffening and narrowing, which raises pressure in the arteries that supply the lungs. The right ventricle's (right lower heart chamber) walls thicken as a result of the elevated pressure (hypertrophy).

Pulmonary hypertension, often known as high blood pressure in the lungs, is the cause of Eisenmenger Syndrome and Eisenmenger Syndrome Treatment. Certain congenital cardiac abnormalities that result in irregular blood flow from the left side of the heart to the right side cause pulmonary hypertension (left-to-right shunt). Atrial septal defect (ASD), ventricular septal defect (VSD), patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), and atrioventricular canal defect are the congenital cardiac anomalies that contribute to this syndrome (AV canal). The right-to-left shunt reverses this process, moving blood from the right side of the heart back to the left, which results in insufficient blood oxygenation.
