Indiana Jones 5 will go against George Lucas’ Temple of Doom wish and see Harrison Ford’s whip-wielding hero punch Nazis in the face once again.
James Mangold's upcoming Indiana Jones 5 will go against a wish that George Lucas set out when making Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. It will be the final installment in the Indiana Jones franchise and the only one neither directed by Steven Spielberg nor with a story written by George Lucas. Instead, Indiana Jones 5 has been written by director James Mangold and his Ford v. Ferrari co-writers, Jez and John-Henry Butterworth.
With Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, George Lucas wanted to move away from having the Nazis as the bad guys of the franchise. In order to avoid this, he made the second film a prequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark and had it take place in India. In contrast to this initial wish, Indiana Jones 5 will see Harrison Ford's archeologist fight against the fascist regime one last time.
The MCU is not impervious to mistakes, plot holes, or inconsistencies. However, it is disappointing to see a potentially successful villain arc go to waste. The introduction of Scorpion in Spider-Man: Homecoming’s post-credits scene was promising but was quickly made meaningless by the movie’s sequels. Spider-Man: No Way Home officially dismissed any lingering threat that Scorpion posed, making the first MCU Spider-Man post-credits scene pointless.
