3 Main Nutrients for Crops that You Should Know About

Crops require certain nutrients to survive and flourish. When these nutrients are available in inadequate quantities, it might lead to slow or stunted growth, cell death, chlorosis, and more. The most essential nutrients for the crop yield are nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K), together known as NPK. Know more about these nutrients in the following slides:

Nitrogen

Nitrogen is the macronutrient responsible for producing protein in a crop, which is also vital for enzymatic reactions in plants. These processes in plants promote growth and lush green leaves. In addition to this, being a part of the chlorophyll molecule, this macronutrient is directly involved in photosynthesis. Due to its importance, well- iffco urea liquid price have the highest concentration of nitrogen.

Phosphorus

The main function of phosphorus is to transfer the energy acquired from the sunlight to the plants, which stimulates overall crop development. When the crop yield is deficient in phosphorus, stunted growth and other health problems can be noticed. Along with this, the leaves will get purple or reddish.

Potassium

Another essential nutrient for a plant is potassium, which is responsible for the movement of water and nutrients throughout the plant. Additionally, it is actively involved in photosynthesis as it regulates the absorption of CO2 in crops. With potassium fertilisers, one can ensure that the crop yield is disease resistant, is better in quality, can cope with drought stress, and more.

Since these are macronutrients and should be present in higher quantities, it is crucial to ensure that the crops are not deficient in NPK. When any of these nutrients are in lesser quantity than required, it can affect the plant growth and health. The best way to prevent this is to provide plants with fertilisers from time to time.
