How does Bhagavad Gita help us?

Bhagavad Gita helps us in many ways. It teaches not mere lessons, it teaches life lessons. It can also be called a guidebook to life. Human beings are caught between dichotomies in everyday life - pain & pleasure, ego & true self, and so on.

"He is what he chooses to act on." If he chooses to pursue his ego, it may once again lead him to the endless cycles of life and birth. But when one follows the true self, he attains liberation or moksha. And Gita truly guides us in attaining the true self by shedding our ego.

Gita is derived from the Great Epic, Mahabaratha. The whole Gita centers around the teachings of Lord Krishna to the confused Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurushetra, where two families are preparing to battle.

It's not easy to answer how Gita helps & the entire teachings of yoga in a quora question.   If you want to truly taste the nectar of the entire Gita, I would suggest you get this wonderful Vedic book online, Bhagavad Gita - The Transcendental Knowledge.

Some of the life lessons which I can share in today's quora are as follows:

 Importance of Decision making

When Arjuna lost his courage to choose between duty and life, the Supreme personality had stepped in. He stabilized the sinking courage of a well-renowned warrior on time by imparting him with The Gita else the battle would have been lost even before it had started.

 Difference Between Knowledge and Wisdom

In general, knowledge is not just focusing on pieces of information. The real knowledge lies in understanding the dharmic principles. When asked by Karna (Son of Sun God) for not being revered as Arjuna, the Lord replied that he had lost the essence of knowledge. He further explained that Karna used his education to seek superiority over Arjuna and not for establishing Dharma.

The Act of Forgiving

Bhagavad Gita (10.4) states, “Forgiveness belongs to a higher state of mind and is originated from the supreme alone, yet attainable through dedicated practices.” Aśvattāmā killed all the five sons of Draupadī treacherously when they were sleeping at night. Though Draupadī kept weeping as she thought of her children, she willingly forgave Aśvattāmā for his deadly act.

And the list goes on and on. Buy Gita today & get help directly from it.
