How to build your website in Wordpress the right way

Have you ever been looking for a WordPress manual? Bet it's not always easy to find a good one? On the internet there is a huge range of WordPress tutorials. And the quality is not always the best.

Let me help you on your way, for I too have become wiser through trial and error.

It is getting easier to build your own website. In fact, there is also an increasing need to make websites yourself. Freelancers, starting companies, or maybe you want to build a website yourself for cost reasons.

If you're a bit tech-savvy, I'd definitely consider it. Matt Mullenweg, the founder of WordPress, wants as many people as possible to use WordPress. And that's why the cms becomes more user-friendly with every update.

The WordPress website states that you can get a site up and running in five minutes. That's right. However, there is still a lot that goes into creating a professional website.

Take the time to learn it, be patient. If you don't, you can forget about it. Because that's what I've noticed in the past few years that I've been working with WordPress: you have to be accurate.

Small mistakes are mercilessly punished. A small piece of code or even forget a comma somewhere and your website just won't work. It's technology, so it's very close.

Over the years I have consulted many WordPress tutorials. After all, there is no school that trains you to become a professional WordPress developer. Often you are on your own and you have to reinvent the wheel yourself. But where do you start with a good WordPress manual?

There are a lot of manuals available, not of that. But what is a good one?

If you google tutorials on WordPress you will come across many. Websites that have “WordPress” and “manual” in the domain name rank high in Google.

But sometimes they have not been kept up to date for two years. Hmmm… why are these sites ranked so high? Google could take a closer look at that.

Start with Kickstart WordPress

When I wanted to master WordPress, I googled and came across Manni Bertelsmann's book, called Kickstart WordPress. I had no idea if this was a good book. In retrospect I say: this was the best choice I could make. It's a good book to start with.

Simply written, understandable and in a clear way, Manni explains step by step how to make a website. How to download WordPress, how to set up the website and upload it to a server, what settings you need to make, the security of the website.

Everything is covered. Sure enough, there are more good books about WordPress, but coincidentally, I learned it with this book and recommend it to everyone.

I am now a professional, but I still use Mannies book because sometimes I still have to read 'how it was done'.

And maybe I'm doing it a little out of sentiment, because this book laid the foundation for my introduction to that fantastic WordPress.
