How can I prepare for the TOEFL in 2 days?

How can I prepare for the TOEFL in 2 days?

This is how I recommend all my students who ask the same question! These three steps teach you how to make smart decisions for the test.

Step 1: Do a mock test and know your current score

Do you know what your current score is? If not, do a mock test now. You can use sites such as https://toeflmocks.com

to do a full mock test that completely mimics the real test. This step is crucial: I had many students who came to me for TOEFL prep, but after they did a mock test, they realized that they were already capable of getting the scores they want without any prep classes, and this happened because their English level was already very good. If this applies to you, then you can prepare for the TOEFL test in “0 days”: you’re already done!

Step 2: Become familiar with the structure of the TOEFL test

As you do a mock test in step 1 above, you would’ve already become a lot more familiar with the test’s structure already. Know what to expect, so there won’t be any surprises on the day of the test. If, say, your writing score is lower than you wish, you can read articles to see how to structure your essay or how your responses are scored. (If you do a mock test on TOEFL Mocks, you’ll also be able to see sample perfect score responses, and those will be very useful). Also, be aware of the time limit for each section so you know how much time to spend on each.

Without any actual improvements to your English ability, simply becoming familiar with the test can help you gain 4–10 points immediately.

Step 3: If your target score is far from your mock test score, consider NOT taking the test in 2 days.

Say if you need a minimum score of 100, and your current mock test score is 82. Even if you happen to get lucky on the test, there’s no way you’ll get anywhere close to 100. Therefore, it really makes no sense for you to appear in the real test, waste your time and test money, and bomb the test. You’ll need to spend more time to prepare and take the test at a later time anyway, so why not postpone this test? You can save yourself a few bucks and avoid a bad score in your account. Instead of taking the real test, you’ll get more out of your morning by staying at home and doing a mock test (which is the same as the real test, but it’s free and not on your official records) or improving your English.
