Subcutaneous pimples (closed comedones) are one of the manifestations of acne. They are blocked with sebum or dead skin cells of the mouth of the ducts of the sebaceous glands. Usually comedones are white, but when inflammation appears, they turn red.

Most often, subcutaneous pimples are localized on the forehead, chin, nose, cheeks, back and chest. If you do not start treating them in time, they begin to become inflamed and turn into papules – pink inflamed nodules, and then into pustules filled with purulent contents. If the pustules are small, after their elimination there are no traces on the skin, but in the case when they merge and become large, scars and pigmentation remain in their place after healing.

Causes that provoke the appearance of subcutaneous acne

1. Hormonal failures

The appearance of subcutaneous pimples on the face and body often worries teenagers. This is due to a hormonal surge, when androgen hormones begin to predominate in the blood during puberty, leading to an increase in the sebaceous glands and an increase in the fat content of the skin.

However, a similar problem occurs in adults. It can appear in both men and women with hormonal problems.

Due to hormonal changes, pregnant women and women may face acne after the onset of menopause. However, such a dermatological problem is less common in their case.

2. Frequent stress

During stress, the hormone cortisol is actively released into the blood, which leads to increased production of sebum, which clogs the pores. And if stressful situations occur on a regular basis, then blockages become chronic and lead to the formation of comedones.

3. Improper nutrition

Uncontrolled consumption of flour products, sweets, smoked meats, spicy and salty foods, as well as alcoholic beverages, often causes the appearance of subcutaneous acne. Only by removing these harmful foods from the diet, you can get rid of rashes.

4. The use of inappropriate cosmetics

Due to the frequent use of alcohol-containing cosmetics, shower gels and foams for washing with an abrasive, the skin loses its protective layer and becomes dehydrated. To help the skin, the body enhances the work of the sebaceous glands, which leads to excessive fat content, clogged pores and an inflammatory process, which results in subcutaneous acne.

5. Bad habits

The habit of constantly touching the face with your hands is one of the reasons for the appearance of deep subcutaneous pimples in the area of the chin and cheeks. The use of alcohol-containing beverages and smoking is also the cause of rashes not only on the face, but also on the body.

6. Anatomical features of the body

It has been scientifically established that in people suffering from acne, the sebaceous glands on the face, back and chest are thinner, longer and more sinuous than those who have clean skin. Similar features of the structure of the ducts of the sebaceous glands, lead to stagnation of sebum and, accordingly, blockage of pores.

Treatment of subcutaneous acne with drugs

With small rashes

Often, over-the-counter anti-acne medications, represented by gels, creams and lotions, are used to treat closed comedones. They include antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and keratolytic components:

• salicylic and azelaic acids,

• resocin,

• benzoyl peroxide.

These drugs should be applied daily to subcutaneous pimples after preliminary cleansing of the skin. Wash during treatment should be mild cleansers that do not clog the pores. You can also use face masks with clay that relieve inflammation and eliminate excess sebum. It must be remembered that it is better to select a remedy with a cosmetologist: only he will be able to correctly select both the remedy and the dosage.

With a sharp deterioration of the skin condition

If the symptoms of a dermatological disease worsen, you should contact a specialist who will diagnose and select an effective therapy. In this case, the doctor usually prescribes drugs with retinoids (most often with tretinoin), which reduce the secretion of sebum and stop the blockage of pores. It is highly not recommended to use strong drugs on your own – you can get the opposite effect.

When the inflammatory process is attached

In the presence of inflammation, the patient is prescribed antibiotics. And in severe acne, supportive medications are prescribed for oral use, which contain sulfur, iron, isotretinoin.

Methods of treatment of subcutaneous acne by a cosmetologist

Subcutaneous pimples, the treatment of which is not always effective when using only drug therapy, need to be treated comprehensively, using in addition to therapeutic serums and lotions, cosmetic procedures.

1. Mechanical and ultrasonic cleaning, which allows you to clean the pores clogged with sebum and stop inflammation, preventing the appearance of new rashes.

2. Chemical peels, which help to remove subcutaneous pimples, relieve inflammation and clean pores from dirt, allow chemical peels. The acids included in their basis have an exfoliating, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect, while narrowing enlarged pores. To remove blackheads and clean pores, peels with lactic, almond and glycolic acids, or with a combination of them, are usually used.

3. Plasma therapy, which helps to fight acne by injecting the patient's own blood plasma. The method allows you to eliminate not only the rashes themselves, but also to remove traces of them.

4. Laser therapy, which is considered the most effective method of combating subcutaneous acne. Laser treatment removes pimples and smoothes the skin relief in just a few sessions.

The clinics of the 9.09 network usually use an integrated approach, combining drug, injection and hardware therapy. This allows not only to get rid of acne and even out the skin, but also to cope with the root cause of the disease in order to avoid relapses in the future.
